Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 Solar Charge Controller

£69.99

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 Solar Charge Controller is a compact MPPT controller for 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems where a bit more solar capacity and growth headroom make sense than the smaller entry-level units. It is a strong fit for campervans, self-build leisure systems and practical off-grid installs where proper energy harvest, sensible battery charging and straightforward monitoring all matter. With built-in Bluetooth Smart, VE.Direct connectivity and up to 20A charge output, it is a sensible all-rounder for systems that need to be done properly rather than merely assembled.

Overview

The Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 Solar Charge Controller is a compact MPPT controller for 12V, 24V and 48V battery systems where a bit more solar capacity and growth headroom make sense than the smaller entry-level units. It is a strong fit for campervans, self-build leisure systems and practical off-grid installs where proper energy harvest, sensible battery charging and straightforward monitoring all matter.

The 100/20 sits in a useful middle ground. It gives you more PV voltage and output current headroom than smaller controllers, but without stepping into the size, cost or complexity of the larger units. For many modest vehicle and off-grid systems, that makes it a sensible all-rounder rather than an oversized science project.

Why this product makes sense

Where the SmartSolar MPPT 75/15 suits smaller roof solar setups, the Victron SmartSolar MPPT 100/20 Solar Charge Controller makes more sense when the array is a bit larger, the system has room to grow, or the panel configuration benefits from the higher 100V PV input limit. It gives more flexibility in panel selection and array design while still remaining compact enough for practical mobile and small off-grid systems.

It also brings the usual Victron advantages that actually matter in the real world: ultra-fast MPPT tracking, built-in Bluetooth, VE.Direct integration, adaptive charging for common battery chemistries and a useful load output on smaller systems. In other words, it is not just a blue box with a nice app — it is a well-sorted controller for systems that are meant to work properly.

Typical applications

  • Campervan and motorhome solar systems where array size is beyond the smaller entry-level controllers.
  • Self-build leisure and auxiliary battery systems using 12V or 24V batteries with modest expansion headroom.
  • Small off-grid battery systems where the extra PV flexibility of a 100V controller is useful.
  • Installations where Bluetooth monitoring and Victron ecosystem integration are part of the plan from day one.

Installation and integration notes

This controller is best specified where the PV array and battery system genuinely justify the step up from the smaller 75V models. Check panel open-circuit voltage properly, especially in colder conditions, and do not treat the 100V limit as an invitation to stop doing the maths. A neat, properly matched solar system will always outperform a badly specified one, even if the controller looks more impressive on paper.

Bluetooth setup through VictronConnect keeps first configuration straightforward, and VE.Direct gives a clean integration path into the wider Victron ecosystem if the system later grows. The load output can be useful in smaller DC systems, but as always, system design comes first — not every load belongs on the controller just because there is a terminal there.

If you are still deciding which controller size suits your panel and battery combination, Victron’s official MPPT Calculator is a useful starting point for checking compatible SmartSolar models.
